Welcome to my world!

My happy place… in the interpreting booth! In 2020, COVID-19 changed the way Interpreters work. With conferences taking place on online platforms, Interpreters can now log in remotely to provide simultaneous interpreting services. Notwithstanding the new technologies available, nothing beats being in the midst of the action and the camaraderie of a booth buddy!

Building this website was very much a DIY project. It’s a work in progress that inspires me to keep on improving. In the process, I took a trip down memory lane to collate relevant material for inclusion here.

I came across this flashback from 2010 that seems like it was just yesterday!
It’s been a hectic, eye-opening, fulfilling decade. I seen things my eyes would not believe and I’ve heard things my ears could not filter. I have grown thanks to this very demanding profession. There’s never a dull moment!

This article was published in the University of the West Indies magazine “STAN” following a special conference in Martinique on the theme of reconstructing Haiti after the devastating January 2010 earthquake. A group of Interpreters from the UWI Postgraduate Interpreting programme was deployed for this assignment. IYN’s CEO, Gennike Mayers was a joint Team Leader.
