February, the month of love is upon us! Are you familiar with “the five love languages”?
According to Dr. Gary Chapman, veteran American marriage counsellor, we all give and receive love in five different ways: words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch. These are called ‘love languages’ and the simple concept is that each of us has a primary love language. This is the one that truly communicates love to us yet if we do not speak the love language of our beloved one, that person may feel unloved even if we are “speaking” some of their other languages. Knowing the primary love language of our beloved is like having a pocket translator to decode messages and meaning.
Dr. Chapman goes on to say that learning love languages is akin to learning a foreign language: you have to be prepared to step outside of your comfort zone! There’s a great analogy that we absolutely love!
So, what’s your love language? For us at IYN, it’s acts of service! We love to serve you.
As we underscore the importance of learning love languages, we reflect on our love of languages!
Here’s a flashback to an interview conducted by Cindy Daniel with Gennike Mayers, IYN CEO, exploring the love of languages. Thanks to the Centre for Language Learning (CLL) for this lovely memory: https://fb.watch/aV3irOP0MU/
